Courtroom5’s Sonja Ebron To Serve On Legal Services Corporation’s Leaders Council

The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) has appointed Courtroom5 CEO Sonja Ebron to serve as a member of its Leaders Council. The Leaders Council is dedicated to helping raise public awareness of the civil legal aid crisis in the U.S. and the importance of equal justice to low-income Americans.

LSC “is the single largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income Americans in the nation.” Legal aid agencies provide legal representation to those who cannot afford it. A wide range of low-income Americans benefits from legal aid services, including people with disabilities, the elderly, families with children, farmers, and veterans.

Every year, people contact their local legal aid office for assistance with housing, family, consumer, employment, and other critical issues. Legal Aid is able to do this work because of LSC funding.

Sonja has a long history with the civil justice system, having represented herself in numerous cases as both a plaintiff and a defendant. From the beginning at Courtroom5, Sonja has put her skills in public and media relations to good use, forging relationships with local businesses and government agencies. Courtroom5 is an outward expression of Sonja’s strong belief in access to justice.

Sonja serves on the Justice Tech working group of the Self-Represented Litigation Network, and Courtroom5 has a strong relationship with both the Duke Law Tech Lab and the LexisNexis Legal Tech Accelerator, having graduated from those programs in 2019. These experiences give Sonja a unique view of the legal system and inform her beliefs about the meaning of justice.
