IAALS hosted a webinar on a gap that quietly limits access to justice: legal aid offices and court self-help centers are stretched thin, while the legal tech tools built to help the people they serve sit disconnected from the front lines. Courtroom5 CEO Sonja Ebron moderated.
The session examined how the Justice Tech Directory — a collaboration between the Legal Services National Technology Assistance Project, the Duke Center on Law & Technology, and the Justice Technology Association — has been folded into real resource and referral systems. Scheree Gilchrist, Chief Innovation Officer at Legal Aid of North Carolina, and Luis Gomes-Ortega, Staff Attorney at the Franklin County Municipal Court Self-Help Center, walked through how their organizations did it. Maya Markovich, Executive Director of the Justice Technology Association, joined them. The webinar was hosted in connection with the Above the Line Network, which focuses on legal help for the underserved middle class.
