Anthropic announced Claude for the Legal Industry on May 12, 2026, naming Courtroom5 a launch partner in an access-to-justice initiative built directly into the company’s broader push into the legal industry. The release adds 20+ new model-context-protocol (MCP) connectors and 12 practice-area plugins to Claude — and for the roughly 80% of civil litigants who appear in court without a lawyer, it puts Courtroom5’s case intake, deadline calculator, and next-step guidance inside Claude conversations for free, in plain English, across all 50 states.
Most people don’t know they have legal rights until it’s too late to use them. Claude can now meet them where they are — in the moment they’re scared and searching for answers.
Sonja Ebron, CEO & Co-Founder, Courtroom5
Coverage of the launch ran across legal and business media, including Fortune, LawNext, Legal Technology Hub, and Startup Fortune. AP News and the National Law Review reprinted the full Courtroom5 press release on the announcement.
Through partnerships with the Free Law Project, Courtroom5, and other legal aid organizations—whose connectors will be available to Claude users at no additional cost—the company is framing the expansion as something more than a productivity play for firms billing by the hour.
